Windows 1.0 for example is no longer produced by Microsoft.
Nor would they profit even if I bought it legally. (garage sales, ebay etc...) So, whats the problem if some random computer enthusiast would like to download a free copy over the internet?

It's still subject to it's original license which actually states that it cannot be transferred to another. Copyrights don't expire just because they're no longer generating revenue. What you're talking about is abandonware. It's illegal, but no one cares.
